Senate hopeful Harold Ford Jr. (D) returned to Volunteer State airwaves this week with a new TV ad blasting the Bush administration's plan to hand over management of six U.S. ports to a United Arab Emirates-controlled company.
Speaking from the Port of Baltimore, Ford tells viewers in the ad that "President Bush wants to sell this port and five others to the United Arab Emirates -- a country that had diplomatic ties with the Taliban."
Ford says he's "running for the Senate because we shouldn't outsource our national security to anyone."
The affected ports are located in Baltimore, New York, Florida, Louisiana, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. But a campaign spokesman said that "while we have no ports in [Tennessee], people are very concerned about national security."
This is the congressman's second national defense-themed advertisement. He released his first ad in June, calling on the president to bring U.S. troops home from the Middle East.
