Ford: "Tennesseans Deserve More than Attacks and Lies"

NASHVILLE – U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. today commented on the unrelenting attacks and lies that have come to be the Republican primary. He issued the following statement:

"Tennesseans are fed up with high gas prices, illegal immigration, expensive health care and an Iraqi war that is worsening and maybe growing. They are also fed up with politicians who spend more time attacking one another and lying about each other’s record than trying to bring people together to solve some of the big problems we face. In the final days of this primary, I appeal to the Republican candidates in the Senate race to show some decency and have some dignity -- stop the lies and attacks on one another and give Tennesseans a worthy debate about issues," said Ford.

    211 Days

Days of Congressional Inaction on Ethics

Above is the number of days that have passed since Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Congressman.

It is also the number of days in which Congress has failed to pass an ethics reform bill that would limit private travel, ski and golf junkets, and would call for a full disclosure of expenses by lobbyists on members of Congress.

It is time for Congress to step up and pass an ethics reform bill that would do all of the above. In addition, it is time to end the pork barrel spending system as we know it and establish an independent ethics commission that would review ethics complaints against members of Congress.

I am proud Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is fighting for that reform!
