The Gray Dog on the Old War Dogs blog, sees what makes Harold Ford Jr. so unique and well like from both political parties; he puts country ahead of politics:
"While discussing the break up of terrorist cells that planned to use liquid explosives aboard British flights bound for the U.S., Ford made the following two comments as examples of how America should be more like our British cousins in its effort to sniff out terrorist cells at home:
1) Strengthen the FISA laws to give the president increased powers to fight terrorism.
2) Secure our borders first and worry about the illegals that are already here later.
When a Republican guest on the show asked if he (Ford) shouldn’t confer with other members of his party before making such statements, his immediate response was “No, I’m ready to work with you, now!”
Once again, I counsel all to be wary of Democrats dressed in Republican clothing, but Harold Ford did vote for the tough immigration bill sponsored by James Sensenbrenner (R – WI) earlier this year. This is something that the outgoing Republican Majority Leader, whose senate seat Ford wishes to capture, failed to support. Instead, Senator Bill Frist, in a stunning demonstration of why he should not be considered a serious candidate for president, came out in favor of the Senate amnesty bill.
This is not an endorsement of Ford. However, it is a breath of fresh air to hear a Democrat talk like an American first and a politician second."
Amen! I could not agree more!
That is what makes Harold Ford Jr. so great; he is an American above all else. That is the way it is supposed to be.
However, all too often nowadays, our leaders get blinded by partisan politics and lose focus of what their main objective is: working for the good of the people they represent and our country as a whole.
It is time we change that. It is time we elect a U.S. Senator who will make everyone proud and will not engage in petty partisan politics.
Congressman Ford has a proven record of being a consensus builder and working with both sides of the aisle while in the U.S. Congress.
I have no doubts whatsoever that Senator Ford would do just the same.
If you are tired of partisan politics and are ready for real leadership that will do what is right for our country and all the people, Harold Ford Jr. is your man this fall!
