The Van Wagon Stoops To A New Low: Attacks Ford For Vote His Father Cast

The Van Wagon has stooped to a new all-time low with their latest deceitful attack on Congressman Ford.

Today in a post, they attack Congressman Ford for a vote he supposedly made in 1994. However, Harold Ford Jr. was not even in Congress in 1994, which means they are attacking Congressman Ford for a vote his father cast, in an attempt to once again confuse the voters of Tennessee.

The truth is, Congressman Ford favors prayer in school. HIS votes in Congress reflect that notion:

  • Congressman Harold Ford Jr. supported the Religious Freedom Constitutional Amendment, a proposed Constitutional amendment that would have guaranteed rights to religious expression on public property, including schools. -- H.J. Res. 78, 06/04/1998

  • Congressman Harold Ford Jr. voted for the Children's Prayers Resolution, resolution expressing the sense of Congress that schools should allow children time to pray for, or silently reflect upon, the country during the war against terrorism -- H.Con.Res.239, 11/15/2001

  • Congressman Harold Ford Jr. supported a resolution that expressed the sense of the House urging President Bush to designate a day of prayer, fasting and humility. It also urged individuals to observe the day and to seek guidance from God to understand their failings and to find resolve to confront the nation's challenges. -- H. Res. 153, 03/27/2003

  • Congressman Harold Ford Jr. YES on amendment to declare that memorials or memorial services on public school campuses to honor the memory of a person slain on that campus may contain religious speech without violating the Constitution. -- Amendment to H.R.1501

So as you can see, Congressman Ford is a strong supporter of prayer in school.

This once again shows that the Republicans are going to say and do ANYTHING they can try to mislead people about Congressman Ford. However, his rhetoric and his votes in Congress speak for themselves.

Instead of falsely attacking Congressman Ford over prayer, the Republicans themselves should be praying, because I do believe lying is a sin and they have been doing a lot of it.

Tennessee deserve a U.S. Senator with real morals and a sincere faith. Congressman Ford has both.

He will make all Tennesseans proud as our U.S. Senator.

174 Days

Days of Congressional Inaction on Ethics

Above is the number of days that have passed since Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Congressman.

It is also the number of days in which Congress has failed to pass an ethics reform bill that would limit private travel, ski and golf junkets, and would call for a full disclosure of expenses by lobbyists on members of Congress.

It is time for Congress to step up and pass an ethics reform bill that would do all of the above. In addition, it is time to end the pork barrel spending system as we know it and establish an independent ethics commission that would review ethics complaints against members of Congress.

I am proud Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is fighting for that reform!
