NRSC Bankrupt On Ideas; Resort To Lies About Ford

The people that work at the NRSC should have auditioned for NBC's Last Comic Standing.

Why? Because they are becoming more of a joke with each passing day.

Case in point, yesterday it was deja vu all over again as they put out yet another lame press release attacking Congressman Ford, insisting that he is a liberal with out of touch values.

However, this lie has been dispelled time and time again, including yesterday on our blog.

The fact is, Congressman Ford, unlike any other candidate in this race appeals to moderate and independent voters and that scares the Republicans. In Rasmussen's latest polling, Ford enjoyed 60% support from self described moderate voters. Far from the numbers a raving liberal, such as the one the Republicans portray Ford as being, would get.

The only reason the NRSC and the Republicans continue to launch these false attacks is because they have nothing to run on. No new ideas. No solutions. No uplifting vision. Nothing. They are desperate.

Even with gas prices out of control and affecting everything part of our lives, the Republicans still have not offered any short term solutions to provide relief at the pump or any long term solutions towards energy independence as Ford has. (1, 2, 3)

Even with our government spending money like drunken sailors, the Republicans are unwilling to call for a balanced budget amendment that would curtail spending and stop putting terrible burdens on future generations. (1)

And even with the continued unrest in Iraq and Iran, the Republicans have yet put forth their view on either situation, contrary to Ford. (1, 2)

The people of Tennessee want a U.S. Senator who looks to find real solutions to real problems and one who seeks to remove barriers so people can get ahead in life.

Simply put, they are yearning for a new generation of leadership.

No NRSC attack or lie can overcome that.

Question: If I were to ask you what the National Republican Party, the oil companies, the insurgents in Iraq and Congressman Ford's opponents for the U.S. Senate all have in common, what would you say?

The answer is that they are all profiting from high gas prices, and continue to resist switching to farm based fuels to replace oil and raising mile per gallon standards on our trucks, cars, and SUVs.

148 Days

Days of Congressional Inaction on Ethics

Above is the number of days that have passed since Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Congressman.

It is also the number of days in which Congress has failed to pass an ethics reform bill that would limit private travel, ski and golf junkets, and would call for a full disclosure of expenses by lobbyists on members of Congress.

It is time for Congress to step up and pass an ethics reform bill that would do all of the above. In addition, it is time to end the pork barrel spending system as we know it and establish an independent ethics commission that would review ethics complaints against members of Congress.

I am proud Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is fighting for that reform!
