"We have to Nominate Someone Who Can Beat Harold Ford, Jr," said Van Hilleary and Ed Bryant - Tennessee Senate Republican Candidates

It is obvious from the first Republican Senate debate held in Memphis last night that my opponents view me as the front-runner in this race. It is now time for Democrats, Republicans, independents and others who want change in Washington to come together and support our candidacy.

There is a growing desire amongst Tennessee voters for an honest change in how Washington responds to high gas prices, hard to find and buy healthcare and issues of war and terrorism. Moreover, senior citizens all across our great state are struggling to pay for prescription drugs and are unable to enroll in the new and complicated prescription drug program passed by Congress and signed by the President. I did not vote for the new drug law because it is too complicated and appears to be more of a giveaway to drug companies than it is a help to seniors.

While my opponents were in Memphis last night attacking me, I was in Washington at the State of the Union encouraging the President to make my “Make America Competitive Again Act” part of his agenda this year. I am encouraged the President discussed energy security and graduating smarter workers for the future in his speech. But, the real test is what Congress and the President do to make all of his ideas a reality.

Today, Congress is getting off to a bad start by cutting college assistance for worthy students by $12 billion while, at the same time, raising taxes on middle class families all across Tennessee. We will not make America competitive again by making college more expensive or by raising taxes on middle class families.

That is why I am asking those who want change and who want to see us win this race to make a $100 contribution online right now. For those of you who have already given the maximum contribution of $4,200, I am asking that you find another person to make an on-line contribution of $100 today.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Harold
