Congressman Harold Ford Jr. said farm-based fuels could form the basis of "the most powerful rural development program in half a century."He said, "Converting our oil-dependent economy to one based on farm-based fuels would be the strongest and most powerful economic stimulus package for rural Tennessee and America that this nation has produced in the last 50 years. It would stimulate jobs and increase opportunity, wealth and prosperity in our rural communities.
"We should invest heavily in technologies that will allow us to take unused acreage in rural Tennessee and America and use it to grow products to feed the world's and this nation's growing energy appetite.
"As part of the Make America Competitive Again Act, this will be my first order of business as a member of the United States Senate."
