Congressman Ford Fighting for Fiscal Responsibility

As noted in Congressman Ford's press release, "Ford Opposes Anti-Competitive and Unfair Budget Package," the federal debt currently stands at a staggering $8.2 trillion.

Since President Bush has been in office and since the Republicans have been in control of the House and Senate, the debt has grown by $2 trillion.

Simply put, they have mismanaged our government and broken their Contract with America.

It is time for reform, and Harold Ford Jr. can provide that reform.

Congressman Ford is a budget hawk through in through. His record on fiscal responsibility is second to none.

Since being in Congress, Ford has never voted for a budget that was not balanced. Further, he is a strong supporter of an amendment to the Constitution that calls for a mandatory balanced budget.

Congressman Ford understands that we must get a hold of the debt now, because if we don't it will only be passed on to future generations.

That is why just yesterday he stood up and voted NO on the unfair budget package which would saddle our nation with even more debt.

Congressman Ford has proven himself to be strong on fiscal responsiblity. However, his opponents have not.

During Ed Bryant and Van Hilleary's time in Congress, federal spending went up by a whopping 43% and the budgets they supported elevated the public debt by $1.5 trillion. ($5,800 per American)

Further, Bryant & Hilleary both voted against the bi-partisan 1997 Balanced Budget Act.

They were only 2 of 32 Republicans to vote against this all important measure which did more to streamline government, cut spending, end the deficits of the 80's and early 90's than the Balanced Budget Act of 1997.

And lets not forget Bob Corker, who as you may know served as Finance C0mmissioner under former Governor Don Sundquist.

By the end of Sundquist's tenure in office, Tennessee was stacked with an enormous $800 million defecit. Hardly, fiscal responsibility from our state's chief finance person.

Simply put, each three have failed miserably in the area of fiscal responsilbility.

Our next U.S. Senator needs to be someone with the convictions to stand up and fight for fiscal responsibility in Washington D.C.

Congressman Ford has proven that he is ready to fight that fight.

That is why he will be elected our next U.S. Senator this November!
