Ford statement on the death of Coretta Scott King

Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. today made the following statement on the death of Coretta Scott King:

"Believers in the power of non-violence to achieve social change and justice, all mourn today the loss of a giant in her own right. Remembered mostly for standing by the true American dreamer, Mrs. King was a woman of tremendous inner strength, soaring conviction and courage and unflinching character. But of all the things I will remember her for and be thankful for about her was the dignity and poise she always showed. In the face of so much pain and indignity, she never surrendered. And for that, I say thank you. We will miss you Mrs. King. Our prayers go out to the entire King family."

Comments: I too wish to extend my prayers to the King family. Just like her husband, Coretta Scott King was someone who helped define today's American society as well as American history with her courage, strong principles, and unwavering pursuit for peace and equality. And we all owe her a debt of gratitude for it.

Mrs. King will be missed but always remebered.
