Corker Campaign Continues To Mislead Voters

The Bob Corker campaign is continuing to mislead voters by insinuating that Congressman Harold Ford Jr. accepted money from Jack Abramoff or any of the tribes connected to Abramoff.

Monday's Commerical Appeal reported, "Ford's campaign spokesman, Carol Andrews, called the Abramoff-link accusation "a stretch of Olympic proportions." Corker's "insinuation that Congressman Ford has taken money from Abramoff's corrupt money machine is a lie," she added."

"Corker's campaign released a statement Monday morning naming four individuals who gave Ford money and either worked on Indian gambling issues for Abramoff clients or worked with Abramoff's Washington firms."
"You've got one bad apple in the law firm and Corker's trying to indict the whole bunch," she said. Andrews said that the contributors have not been indicted and "are not part of Abramoff's corrupt money machine."

She added: "We're clean."

In a follow-up email message, she said Corker's "insinuation that Congressman Ford has taken money from Abramoff's corrupt money machine is a lie."

Why can't the Corker campaign just tell the truth?

It is evident that Congressman Ford accepted no money whatsoever from Jack Abramoff or the tribes connected to him.

The record clearly shows that. (Read the entire list of people, which includes Van Hilleary, who did accept Abramoff money here)

For the Corker campaign to suggest otherwise is just plain dishonest and wrongheaded.

But hey, what else can you expect from someone who was one of Don Sundquist's right hand men?

The people of Tennessee deserve better leadership than that of Ed Bryant, Van Hilleary, or Bob Corker.

Each of them have already demonstrated they will lie and say anything about Congressman Ford in this race to score political points. The people of Tennessee are sick and tired of that kind of crash and burn politics.

The real issues in this race are far too important to be trounced by dishonest and dirty politics such as this.

It is clear that we need someone to represent us in Washington that is serious about ethics reform. Harold Ford Jr. has already demonstrated he is ready to take the lead in that effort.

That is why he will be our next U.S. Senator.
