Report: Republican Group Says GOP Candidates Are Too Focused On Abortion

In an election that has literally turned into who can portray themselves as being the most hardcore conservative, it appears that Bob Corker, Ed Bryant, and Van Hilleary have managed to offend even members of their own party by exclusivley focusing on the issues of abortion.

The Associated Press has the story:

Candidates seeking the Republican nomination in the U.S. Senate race should focus on issues other than abortion in the final days before Thursday's primary, the chairman of a conservative group said.

"Some folks assume that all conservatives care about is abortion and gay marriage," said Lloyd Daugherty of the Tennessee Conservative Union, which hosted its annual Reagan Day Dinner on Saturday in Knoxville. "The Tennessee Conservative Union is different."

The three main candidates for the Republican nomination are former Chattanooga mayor Bob Corker and former congressmen Ed Bryant and Van Hilleary. Harold Ford Jr. is the likely Democratic nominee in the race for the seat held by Republican Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, who is not seeking re-election.

Leaders of the Tennessee Conservative Union said debate about abortion has consumed too much attention in the Republican U.S. Senate campaign."

You guys may find this hard to believe, but I actually agree with this group.

It seems all we hear between Bob Corker, Ed Bryant, and Van Hilleary is debate over who is the most pro-life of the three. In the newspaper, on the radio, on the television, in the debates, and everywhere else! It's just crazy!

Maybe the three stooges have forgotten that they are running for the U.S. Senate, where major decisions will be made over the next 10-20 years on big issues such as foreign policy, energy policy, immigration, fiscal policy, education policy, and much more.

People want to hear about real solutions to the major problems we have; not a debate exclusively over one issue, which is nothing but a deceitful ploy to pander to the extreme of the Republican party.

The Republicans for far too long now have tried to play the abortion card come election time. However, it looks as though everyone, including their own party, has finally called their bluff and said enough is enough.

People are ready for a new generation of leadership that will focus on the issues that really matter and bring us together.

If you want a substance candidate that will go beyond this one issue debate, Harold Ford Jr. is your man!
