New Zogby Polls Laminates Ford Surge

On Monday, the Ford campaign got more good news, as the latest Zogby/Wall Street Journal poll shows Congressman Ford leading or in a dead heat with all of his Republican opponents.

The results from the latest poll are as follows:

General Election Match-ups

+/- 3.8 MOE

Ford Jr 46.3%
Corker 42.5%

Hilleary 47.1%
Ford Jr 46.3%

Bryant 47.6%
Ford Jr 45.4%

Zogby's Analysis:

The race political observers are watching is the Senate contest, and our latest online poll (as well as a very recent Zogby International telephone poll) shows it to be a real dogfight.

Democrat Harold Ford Jr.—who can truly be described as a conservative—has long been noticed as a rising star in the Democratic Party. An African American with conservative views on many topics, and a moderately pro-life voting record, Ford is the kind of Democrat who can win in Tennessee. With strong support in the state’s western region, including his hometown of Memphis, Ford comes with a solid base to campaign from. That’s not to say Ford is as conservative as the Republicans in Tennessee’s Congressional delegation; he voted “No” on the recent resolution supporting the Iraq War and rejecting a timetable for a U.S. pullout.

This contest, of course, would be a sweet victory for Democrats hoping to embarrass the GOP this year. If Republicans fail to hold onto the seat of outgoing Majority Leader Bill Frist, that could signal serious problems for the GOP early on election night.

Not too bad for a Democrat in one of the reddest states in the Union, huh?

This poll along with other recent polling and the news from the end of last week that Congressman Ford once agian out raised all three of his Republican opponents combined in the last quarter, re-inforces the notion that Congressman Ford is the front runner in this race.

While the Republican candidates are attacking each other and talking about everything but what matters, Congressman Ford is talking about real issues like gas prices, Iraq, immigration, global warming, balancing the budget, ethics, and other issues that matter to everyday Tennesseans. His uplifting message of change is clearly resonating with voters.

When given the choice between more of the same and change--the voters will choose change everytime.

That is why Harold Ford Jr. will be our next U.S. Senator.

A Must Win: Remember guys, Charlie Cook, Dick Morris, and other well respected sources have already said that if the Democrats are going to take back the Senate--it all comes down to this race!

It can be done, with your help! Be sure to donate your time, money, and prayers to the Congressman!

As we all know, the decisions made in the United States Senate, affect our lives every day for years to come. So lets get and stay busy!

204 Days

Days of Congressional Inaction on Ethics

Above is the number of days that have passed since Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Congressman.

It is also the number of days in which Congress has failed to pass an ethics reform bill that would limit private travel, ski and golf junkets, and would call for a full disclosure of expenses by lobbyists on members of Congress.

It is time for Congress to step up and pass an ethics reform bill that would do all of the above. In addition, it is time to end the pork barrel spending system as we know it and establish an independent ethics commission that would review ethics complaints against members of Congress.

I am proud Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is fighting for that reform!
