Charlie Cook Says Control Of Senate Rests With Tennessee

The highly respected, non-partisan, political expert Charlie Cook of the Cook Political Report has labeled the Tennessee U.S. Senate race as one of only a handful of toss up races in the nation this year.

However, Tuesday was the first day in which Cook revealed just how important the Tennessee Senate race is.

In a National Journal article Cook said the following about the race:

"To take over, Democrats must win the open seat in Tennessee, where the winner of the August 3 Republican primary will face Democratic Rep. Harold Ford. If Republicans hold Tennessee, they hold the Senate. If they have a truly horrible night and lose Tennessee, they lose the Senate."

That's right folks--Charlie Cook says the control of the U.S. Senate hangs in the balance right here in Tennessee.

If anyone ever questioned the importance of this race, let them question no more.

With the control of the Senate, so goes the future of our nation. That is how crucial this race is.

Democrats need to make sure we unite like we have never united before and make Harold Ford Jr. our next U.S. Senator.

The stakes have been laid out in black and white.

119 Days

Days of Congressional Inaction on Ethics

Above is the number of days that have passed since Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Congressman.

It is also the number of days in which Congress has failed to pass an ethics reform bill that would limit private travel, ski and golf junkets, and would call for a full disclosure of expenses by lobbyists on members of Congress.

It is time for Congress to step up and pass an ethics reform bill that would do all of the above. In addition, it is time to end the pork barrel spending system as we know it and establish an independent ethics commission that would review ethics complaints against members of Congress.

I am proud Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is fighting for that reform!
