Charlie Cook: Ford Strongest Democrat Recruit In 2006; Tennessee Highly Vulnerable

Highly respected, non-partisan, political expert Charlie Cook has some more great things to say about Harold Ford Jr.

In a May 5th article from the National Journal, Cook says the following about our next U.S. Senator:

"Strange as it might seem, Democrats have a shot at an open Senate seat in the South. Their Tennessee nominee, Rep. Harold Ford, may be their strongest recruit of the cycle in terms of raw talent, political skills, and fundraising ability."

"The nation's current political climate means that Ford, a talented politician with a moderate record, couldn't have a better year in which to run for statewide office in Tennessee. He will be competitive regardless of which Republican he faces in the fall.."

Cook goes on to call the Tennessee Senate seat "Highly Vulnerable" for the Republicans.

Charlie Cook joins a long and growing list list of other political experts who also agree that Harold Ford Jr. is the man in 2006!

121 Days

Days of Congressional Inaction on Ethics

Above is the number of days that have passed since Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Congressman.

It is also the number of days in which Congress has failed to pass an ethics reform bill that would limit private travel, ski and golf junkets, and would call for a full disclosure of expenses by lobbyists on members of Congress.

It is time for Congress to step up and pass an ethics reform bill that would do all of the above. In addition, it is time to end the pork barrel spending system as we know it and establish an independent ethics commission that would review ethics complaints against members of Congress.

I am proud Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is fighting for that reform!
