Who Will Be The First To Bite The Dust?

Just days after reports suggested that the Ford campaign has the momentum in the 2006 Tennessee U.S. Senate race, rumors are running rampant that indicate one of the Republican candidates running for the U.S. Senate will drop out this week.

So who will it be? Lets have a look at the challengers shall we.

Will it be Ed Bryant who is lagging in fundraising and has been marred by the revelations that he accepted dirty money from Tom Delay and John Gregory? Bryant has also been caught fibbing about his fiscal record recently.

Will it be Van Hilleary who is in the same boat as Ed Bryant in fundraising and has took heat for accepting money from some of Jack Abramoff's dirty tribes then went on to plead ignorant on the whole situation. Van too has been caught lying on a number of issues of late.

Or will it be Pro-Abortion, Pro-Tax Increase, and Pro-Illegal Immigration Bob Corker who currently leads all of the GOP candidates in fundraising, yet cannot get any support from the traditional conservative base. Just within the past few weeks, Corker took extreme heat from all sides when reports suggested that "fraud and lavish spending" took place under him while Mayor of Chattanooga and also for not paying his income taxes and for his refusal to come out against the Dubai port deal.

It will be interesting to see who ends up calling it quits first.

With all the baggage that each of them have and the momentum the Ford campaign has, who could blame any of them?

69 Days

Days of Congressional Inaction on Ethics

Above is the number of days that have passed since Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Congressman.

It is also the number of days in which Congress has failed to pass an ethics reform bill that would limit private travel, ski and golf junkets, and would call for a full disclosure of expenses by lobbyists on members of Congress.

It is time for Congress to step up and pass an ethics reform bill that would do all of the above. In addition, it is time to end the pork barrel spending system as we know it and establish an independent ethics commission that would review ethics complaints against members of Congress.

I am proud Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is fighting for that reform!
