Hundreds Show Up In Support For Congressman Ford At Open House

Thursday night was Open House night at the new Harold Ford Jr. for U.S. Senate campaign headquarters in Nashville.

My father and I arrived around 3:15 and helped set up things up for the event, as well as say hello to everyone.

The actual event started around 5:00. Minute by minute more had more people flowed into the headquarters. Just withing thirty minutes or so there were tons and tons of people present including TNDP Chair Bob Tuke, Former Congressman Bob Clement, AFL-CIO leaders Jerry Lee and A.J. Starling, and State Representative John Shaw.

The event was catered with food and also had a live disc jockey.

By the time 6:00 had rolled around, there were probably between 400-500 Ford supporters packed into the headquarters to meet the man who will be our next U.S. Senator.

The Congressman arrived around 6:15 to a very enthusiastic crowd. He shook some hands as he came in, then went to the front to be introduced and speak.

The first speaker was TNDP Chair Bob Tuke, who in turn announced Former Congressman Bob Clement. Congressman Clement spoke for around five minutes before Chairman Tuke took the stage once again to introduce Congressman Ford.

Ford took the stage to a thunderous crowd. He spoke for about ten minutes and everyone what his candidacy was about: making Tennessee and America work again for everyone.

After the Congressman was done speaking, he was immediately swamped by adoring supporters, much the way rock stars are. Every step he took someone was on his arm wanting to shake his hand, talk to him, or wanting him to pose for a photo.

The event was simply great! The crowd was larger than life and the mood was even better.

People want change, and that is evident by this super event. (Seriously, there was no walking room in the headquarters there were so many people)

Congressman Ford is well on his way to a victory for the people in November.

Note: It was great seeing everyone at the event Thursday, including my good friend Congressman Ford. I am really blessed to have so many great friends.

37 Days

Days of Congressional Inaction on Ethics

Above is the number of days that have passed since Jack Abramoff pleaded guilty to bribing Congressman.

It is also the number of days in which Congress has failed to pass an ethics reform bill that would limit private travel, ski and golf junkets, and would call for a full disclosure of expenses by lobbyists on members of Congress.

It is time for Congress to step up and pass an ethics reform bill that would do all of the above. In addition, it is time to end the pork barrel spending system as we know it and establish an independent ethics commission that would review ethics complaints against members of Congress.

I am proud Congressman Harold Ford Jr. is fighting for that reform!
